CVMPS Meeting Minutes

Castro Valley Music Parents’ Society Minutes

October 11, 2017

Approved minutes: Beth Watson presented the September minutes for approval.

Welcome and Introductions: Kathy Kelley, Michelle Uchiyama, Beth Watson, Carina Zamora, Helen Wu, Emilie Nepveux, Bob Shedd, Steve Hendee

Treasurer’s Report: We voted to renew the MPS membership with Parent Boosters USA. Helen Wu reported on the financials for MPS through October 7, 2017:

  • Teacher’s Accounts: $51,944.65
  • MPS Account: $33,702.02
  • Total: $85,646.67

Helen will be out of town Oct. 14-22 and Nov. 12-18, so please contact her before or after these dates if needed.

Membership Notes: There were 63 new Diamond memberships in September, which makes of total of 232 so far for the Disneyland pass raffle. The raffle will take place during the next MPS meeting in November. People have until Oct. 31 to join at the Diamond level ($100) to qualify for the raffle.

Awards/Scholarships: MPS received three thank-you notes from previous years’ scholarship winners: Rebecca Marshall, Sam Troxell, and Lotan Yeung. Lotan has submitted all of his paperwork to qualify for the Bob Shedd Music Major’s Scholarship, and so he will be receiving his $1000 check from MPS this month.

Spaghetti Feed: The general consensus is to keep the Spaghetti Feed very similar to how it was run last year. Kathy will be checking with Jean Marie soon to make sure the paperwork gets submitted to reserve Canyon Middle school for the event. We will look into possibly selling tickets through Pay Pal or Brown Paper Tickets this year, since Eventbright, although convenient, was very expensive last year.

New Business: We discussed the confusion regarding where mail for MPS is being sent. We agreed to change all MPS addresses to Canyon Middle School.

Meeting adjourned at 7:39pm.

Next meeting date: Nov. 8, 2017

Minutes respectfully submitted by Beth Watson

About MPS

The Music Parents' Society is a registered 501c3 tax-exempt music booster organization for Castro Valley Unified School District.

We provide volunteers and additional funds to our vocal and instrumental music department. In turn this also benefits the drama/theater at the middle schools and high school, which are fantastic as well.

We also provide annual College Music Scholarships for multiple graduating high schools students.

All MPS board members have a voice in disbursements from the MPS general fund, and look for new ways to keep the community aware of music program issues and needs. Please click here for a full description of each position.
