Scholarship

Music Parents’ Society will be offering several scholarships to graduating seniors who have been very active in the school music program throughout their years at Canyon/Creekside and Castro Valley High School.  Students who have not been in the Castro Valley School district beginning in sixth grade should state the name and location of the schools they were attending and list their musical participation experience. 

APPLICATION PROCEDURE: 

  • Students must complete the attached application form. Please click here for the application form.

  • Students must prepare a written statement (not to exceed one page) stating their future goals in  music

  •       Students should submit one letter of recommendation from someone other than their school music teacher and attach it to the application.  (May be in a sealed envelope, if preferred)  This letter should be from a private music instructor or someone who is very familiar with the student from a musical perspective.

  •        The student's family must be members of Music Parent's Society as of March 15, 2010.  (Membership forms may be obtained from any music teacher or click here to download a copy.  The annual family fee is $25.00)

  •        The completed application with attached student statement and letter of recommendation must be returned to a high school music teacher by the end of first period on Friday, April 24, 2010.  Do NOT mail or leave items in the MPS District office mailbox. 

REVIEW COMMMITTEE:  This committee consists of the three high school music instructors and members of MPS.  They will determine the number of scholarships to be awarded and the amount of each scholarship depending on the funds available from MPS. 

AWARD PRESENTATION:  The scholarship recipients will be announced at the various spring concerts with additional acknowledgement made and checks distributed at the C.V.H.S. Awards presentation. 

MONETARY DISTRIBUTION:   The scholarship checks will be made payable to the scholarship recipient.
