Impending Cuts to Music Programs

As of March 15, 2009, with a 25% cut to Music, the impending cuts are:

• Eliminate 4th grade instrumental music and vocal programs at all elementary schools

• Eliminate CV High School Concert Band

• Eliminate CV High School Madrigals

• Combine CV High School Men's and Women's A Cappella into one choir

• Reduced Creekside 6th grade Band to 2 days (from 5).

• Reduced Creekside 7th/8th  Band  to 3 days (from 5).

• Eliminate the 7th period at the High School

Why the 7-period day at the high school matters

With only 6 periods in the day, students will have difficulty fitting music into their schedule. Most college-bound students will only be able to take music for ONE YEAR.  This will be a serious detriment to our students' ability to get accepted at top universities. Loss of Opportunity to our music students

Many students will never again in their lives play in a large orchestra or band, or sing in a large choir.  The school board's suggestion that students can make up for the loss of their 7th period class by taking a class at a community college or at the adult school is very unrealistic at best..
